Iberia and Sepla pilots complete draft of bargaining agreement

Iberia’s management and Sepla pilots union shop stewards today completed the draft of the company’s 7th collective bargaining agreement, reflecting the accords reached in the negotiations on 22-Jan.

With regard to the discrepancies arising in recent days over wage increases for pilots more than 60 years old, both sides made concessions in order to close the contract deal.

Accordingly, instead of the 1.4% and 2.7% hikes agreed in Jan-08 and 2009 respectively, the 2008 rise will come to 3.5% and that of 2009 to 0.6%, so the whole wage bill will not be altered.

The two sides agreed to postpone until 2014 the possibility that pilots between the ages of 60 and 65 may carry a full work load, and meanwhile their flying hours will be confined to 50% of the maximum.

Before it can take effect, the contract must be ratified by the pilot’s assembly.
