Between 2008 and 2014, Norwegian will replace its fleet which currently consists of 737-300 and MD80 airplanes. They will be replaced by 58 new Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which are among the most environmentally-friendly airplane models available on the market. The Boeing 737-800 series aircraft reduce NOx and CO2 emissions by 20 – 25%. Compared to a MD airplane – which is a common sight at Scandinavian airports today NOx emissions are reduced by 43% and CO2 emissions by 33%. Norwegian will phase out the last four MD airplanes in the fleet during 2009 and subsequently will only operate flights using Boeing 737 aircraft.
