Air Berlin, Germany’s second largest airline, will be flying to Romania for the first time in summer 2010. From 18th May 2010 a non-stop flight will take off from Munich every Tuesday and head for Romania’s Black Sea coast.

Air Berlin, Germany's second-largest airline company, increased its revenue per available seat kilometer to 5.80 Eurocents (05/2008: 5.31 Eurocents), i.e. an increase of 9.3 percent. The number of passengers transported was 7.7 percent lower than in the corresponding month of the previous year, decreasing to 2,507,227 passengers (May 2008: 2,716,646), in part due to a targeted capacity reduction of 3.1 percent. Fleet capacity utilization declined by 3.8 percentage points to 77 percent.

Improved management and higher-quality client mix †Profit eases by 27.3 percentDespite the impact of the economic and financial crisis, Air Berlin's profit and revenue for the first quarter of 2009 came in according to plan. The number of passengers transported decreased to 5.5 million, i.e. a 6.2 percent drop, a figure that bested the branch average. For the first quarter of 2009, seasonal operating loss (EBIT) reached minus EUR 87.3 million (Q1 2008: minus EUR 68.6 million).

Germany's second largest airline is expanding its route network and will be flying from Israel to Berlin for the first time this summer. From 7-Jul-2009 onwards, Air Berlin passengers will have a choice of two non-stop flights a week from Tel Aviv to Berlin.

Germany’s second largest airline will be setting up a Corporate Users Advisory Council in May-2009. The declared objective is to be able to offer a more effective and flexible response to immediate market conditions. The Council’s key task consists in monitoring the development of the business travel sector and to ensure further improvement for Air Berlin in terms of how the interests and requirements of the market are realised.

The Federal Cartel Office in Bonn has notified Air Berlin PLC & Co Luftverkehrs KG that it has no objections to the Turkish company ESAS Holding AS acquiring a stake in the airline.
