Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, has won a share of an order from Turkish Airlines (THY), the national carrier of Turkey, for V2500 engines to power 20 firm and 10 option Airbus A320 family aircraft. The order is worth up to $170 million to Rolls-Royce.

The recently-finalised AEA 2010 traffic data pain a bleak picture of a difficult year. Only three member airlines posted increases in passenger boardings for the year and one Turkish Airlines stood out with a 12.3% growth. In the process, the airline moved from seventh to fourth place among AEA members, ranked by passengers carried.

Following comprehensive project work which has spanned almost three years the Government of the Republic of Congo signed a concession agreement for the development, operation and management of the country’s international airports Brazzaville, Pointe-Noire and Ollombo. Amadeus and Air France - KLM, the largest airline group in Europe, have agreed to extended their full content agreement until December 2013. The agreement guarantees Amadeus travel agents worldwide access to the entire range of fares, schedules and inventory relating to more than 74.8 million seats and 90.000 flights operated annually by Air France and KLM.

The Conference Board Leading Economic Index™ (LEI) for the Euro Area increased 0.9 percent in December to 106.6 (2004 = 100), following a 0.6 percent increase in November and a 0.4 percent increase in October. Six of the eight components contributed positively to the index this month. However, its six-month growth rate has been slowing since September.

Ryanair, Europe’s favourite airline, today welcomed the European Commission’s confirmation that Ryanair’s agreement with Bratislava airport does not involve any State aid. This decision marks another successful conclusion of a State aid investigation involving Ryanair, in addition to the Charleroi judgment in December 2008.
