The following perspective is taken from the Centre for Aviation's Europe Airline Daily. Another A380 delay announcement, this time as a result of Airbus’ inability to ramp up production as fast as hoped, comes hard on the heels of Boeing’s announcement of further delays in the B787 delivery schedule. Boeing announced in Apr-08 that around 84 fewer B787s would be delivered in 2009 (only 25 deliveries are now anticipated), due to its production delays.

AUSTRIA : The Austrian Airlines Group announced it is increasing its fuel surcharge for short- and medium-haul flights from the current level of EUR17 to EUR21. Fuel surcharges on long-haul routes will also be increased, from EUR77 to EUR82. These new charges apply to all tickets for flights operated by the Austrian Airlines Group sold or issued from 20-May-08 onwards.

UNITED KINGDOM : Flybe announced it is adding a minimum of two extra return flights on its popular Isle of Man to Manchester route. These, added to Flybe’s existing schedule of up to five a day, will give TT fans extra opportunities to attend the famous Isle of Man motorcycle races, being held between 24-May-08 and 07-June-08.

IRELAND : Ryanair announced a new route from Manchester to its Frankfurt Hahn base. The new route will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays from 26-Oct-08. Ryanair now serves 7 destinations from Manchester including Marseille, Bremen and Shannon.

SPAIN : Iberia has completed its first exhaustive C-check on an Airbus A-330/300 belonging to the Iberworld company at its Madrid maintenance hangar. The inspection came under the extended maintenance agreement between the two companies. For more than six years Iberia Maintenance has provided inspection and major maintenance services to Iberworld’s Airbus fleet.

SWITZERLAND : SR Technics has concluded a five-year agreement with Flybaboo to provide line maintenance services for the Swiss-based carrier at Geneva Airport. Flybaboo is SR Technics’ first customer operating Embraer ERJ190 aircraft.

SWITZERLAND : Flybaboo is changing its name to become Baboo. A new red and white vertical logo positions the brand more strongly, more visibly and in a more differentiated manner and now characterises the airline.

RUSSIAN FEDERATION : S7 Airlines announced the opening of a new flight from St. Petersburg to Moscow and back. Flights will be operated every day beginning 12-May-08. The departure time from Moscow (Domodedovo) is at 10:10 and from St. Petersburg (Pulkovo-1) at 12:20 local time.
