The electronic boarding pass replaces the need for a printed paper document. The service will gradually be extended to more long-haul routes over the next few weeks.

Within just weeks of its inaugural flight, Lufthansa Italia is expanding its network in response to high demand. From 01-Apr, the airline will also offer flights on domestic routes from Milan Malpensa to Rome, Naples and Bari. Since the beginning of February, passengers have had a choice of several direct flights per day to Paris and Barcelona. Starting this week, the airline will also fly to Brussels, Budapest, Bucharest and Madrid. The takeover offer of EUR4.49 per share is about 69% above the share price on 02-Dec-08 and about 30% above the closing price of the share on 26-Feb-09.

Lufthansa spells out ambitious goals in its strategic environmental programme. The Group has specified 15 guidelines to steer its path towards realisation of further decisive progress in environmental efficiency by the year 2020. Lufthansa’s efforts on behalf of environment and climate protection and social responsibility are documented in the Group’s Sustainability Report “Balance”. The 14th issue of the Report is scheduled to be published shortly.

Lufthansa and United Airlines announced they have combined their individual corporate incentive programmes to create a single joint programme under United’s PerksPlus brand. Lufthansa’s previous “Corporate Mileage Plan” members and United’s PerksPlus participants will now have access to more benefits across a wider, global network. The enhanced PerksPlus programme, which will be administered by United Airlines, rewards small and medium sized companies in the United States that spend a minimum of USD20,000 during a 12 month period on Lufthansa, United, and United Express combined. Point accruals are based on dollars spent within fare classes.

In recent weeks, crude oil and kerosene prices have continued to rise and are reaching highest levels. In response to this development, Lufthansa is adjusting its fuel surcharges on its flights. The fuel surcharge on domestic German and intra-European routes will increase by EUR3 to EUR24 per flight segment. On long-haul routes, the corresponding fuel surcharge will be raised by EUR10 to EUR92 per flight segment. The increases will apply to all Lufthansa tickets issued on or after 16-Jun-08.

(XFN Asia) Deutsche Lufthansa AG has raised its estimate for fuel costs for 2008 to EUR5.7 billion from a previous estimate of EUR5.3 billion. However, Lufthansa added that this has no impact on the company's full-year guidance.

Lufthansa, SWISS and Travelport GDS have signed a long-term, full content agreement. It will run until the end of 2011 and will give all travel agencies worldwide that make bookings via the global distribution systems (GDS), Galileo, and Worldspan, access to all Lufthansa and SWISS published fares and inventory. Moreover, all the participating travel agencies in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein that subscribe to Galileo and Worldspan will be able to book Preferred Fares with Lufthansa and SWISS without the imposition of any surcharge.

Due to this extension, the system offers an authoring environment for the flight operations documentation. Lufthansa Cargo and World Airways have signed a 15-month contract beginning 1-Jul-08 for three World Airways MD-11 freighters to operate between Europe and the United States for Lufthansa Cargo. World has been operating continuously for Lufthansa Cargo since 2006.

Lufthansa stated that in response to the recent rise in oil price to all-time highs, Lufthansa is adjusting its fuel surcharge on all its flights. The fuel surcharge on long-haul routes will be raised by five euros to EUR82 per flight segment.

Lufthansa announced plans to expand its route network from Milan to more European destinations. In a first step, from the beginning of 2009, six new Embraer 195 jets will be stationed at Milan Malpensa Airport. The aircraft will be operated by the Italian Lufthansa subsidiary, Air Dolomiti, and will be deployed on intra-European routes.

Lufthansa has introduced a new mobile boarding pass service on its services from Hamburg to Munich and Frankfurt. With the new service service, passengers who have an Internet-enabled phone can be sent an electronic boarding pass by email or SMS link. The mobile boarding pass contains the relevant flight data, such as the name of the traveller, flight number and departure time, plus a 2-D barcode. Passengers travelling with hand luggage only can then proceed straight to the security checkpoint and to the gate, where the barcode on their mobile boarding pass will be read by a scanner. This means they can then board the aircraft without a printed paper document.

From 1 July 2008, Lufthansa will introduce new non-stop flights between Pune and Frankfurt. The new six weekly flights are operated by an Airbus A319, offering a total of 48 seats in an all-business class configuration.This new Lufthansa Business Jet service will be the first to link Pune non-stop to Europe, and will offer significant convenience for passengers.

Dubai customers to enjoy easy connections to Munich and onward flights to European and US connections.
Dubai: Lufthansa German Airlines now offers six times a week flights until 28th October, 2008 from Dubai to Munich on its A319 Business Executive Jet service in an all Business class configuration. The inaugural flight service on the Dubai Munich route will begin on May 1st from Munich to Dubai.

Lufthansa is on a high, following a record 2007 profit a result it expects to eclipse this year. Now CEO, Wolfgang Mayrhuber, has stated he expects further consolidation among airlines both in Europe and the US and the German carrier is willing and able to play an active role.

Lufthansa announced the launch of its daily non-stop service between Calgary and Frankfurt. Lufthansa's Calgary-Frankfurt service was last offered in the 1980s. It is the only airline in Calgary to offer first class amenities and services to Continental Europe.

Deutsche Lufthansa AG announced it plans to sell its 49% stake in the ground handling company, GlobeGround Berlin GmbH, indirectly through a holding company, to nationally employed WISAG group. The disposal reflects Lufthansa's portfolio management strategy of focusing on the company’s core business segments. The Berlin airports are also going to sell their majority shares in GlobeGround to WISAG group. The price of the transaction has not been disclosed and the transaction is still subject to regulatory approval.

Lufthansa Cargo posted growth in terms of cargo volume and capacity utilisation in 1Q08. The Lufthansa subsidiary transported 429,000 tonnes of freight and mail, an increase of 0.4% year-on-year. The cargo load factor rose to 69.5%.

(XFN-ASIA) Bank of China has signed agreements with Deutsche Lufthansa AG for the financing of two Airbus A330-300 aircraft under Japanese operating lease structures. BOC Aviation, a wholly owned subsidiary of the bank, acted as the debt arranger. The euro-denominated facilities of USD154 million are for a term of over 12 years. This is the first aircraft debt facility arranged for Lufthansa by a Chinese bank.

As of April 1st, 2008, Lufthansa German Airlines will fly Non stop from Dammam to Frankfurt three times a week and four times a week from Bahrain on First, Business and Economy class with the Airbus 330-300, thus enabling the airline to offer daily non-stops flights throughout the week.
